Setting the standard for future professionals

The Netherlands Institute of Welding (NIL) has, in its more than 80 years of operations, established itself as a household name for welding professionals and companies. With just 14 employees the non-profit organization ensures Dutch welding professionals are educated, trained, and certified according to the highest global standards, making NIL the most trusted accreditation in the Netherlands.

It’s an achievement the company has earned through dedication to educational excellence. With the primary goal of NIL to increase the standard of welding professionals, the education department plays a vital role within the organization. Unfortunately for the small team of 4, the student management and certification process was controlled by critically outdated manual systems.

Cracks in the framework

Tim Liefaart, examination manager at NIL, explained how even a process like issuing a certificate required hand-written forms to be scanned and emailed to NIL for checking. That meant, in the best-case scenario, students' information had to be read and typed up before certificates could be issued. In the worst-case scenario, the handwriting was illegible and the information incomplete.

Without a digital tool in place, processes like these were costing NIL up to 40 working hours per week. Tim Liefaart knew that his team needed a solution to update their operations and eliminate frustrations from their daily routines. NIL’s search for process automation and workflow management tools led them to DailyOps, a no-code development partner of Betty Blocks.

Tim briefly explained their decision to use no-code for this project: “It was clear that DailyOps could help us quickly but it was the approachability of no-code that solidified the choice for me. Knowing that we wouldn’t be taking a back-seat for the project gave us a lot of confidence that we’d get the solution we wanted in the end.”
